Naming news for 2022

Published

Happy new year everyone! I hope that 2022 will be better than 2020 and 2021.

As of December 19th, my university has no name. The Conseil d’État (supreme court for administrative justice) has partially voided the decree of creation of “Université de Paris”. They decided that, in choosing the same name as the two universities founded in the XIIth century and in 1896 (and of which the various Paris-nn are successors, for 1n131 \leq n \leq 13), the government has abused its power. After spending the past three years explaining to my colleagues from other universities/countries that yes, my university was called “Université de Paris” with no number, you can imagine my reaction.

Update March 3rd 2022: It’s official, the university’s name will be “Université Paris Cité.”
